Group Retreats

We are currently spreading the word to colleges and universities about El Cocal House which we think is an ideal location for a semester abroad for students of Garifuna cultures and language, Spanish language, or any course related to Central American studies. We will rent the home by the month in these cases.

Because we have seen the positive affects of respectful humanitarian groups on the local communities, we offer a discount to groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Peace Corps, Doctors Without Borders, or other helping missions. Please inquire for this discount. Projecthonduras.com is a great resource for those wanting to organize mission groups to Honduras.

Most groups arrive into San Pedro Sula before heading out to El Cocal. If you plan to spend a night or two, we recommend Gran Hotel Sula (email: reservaciones@hotelsula.hn) , a charming and bustling Sula classic overlooking Central Park with its popular 24 hour Skandia Restaurant, or to stay minutes away from the airport, we recommend the newer Metrotel Express, a very neat, breakfast-included hotel nestled in a lovely tropical garden. Larson's Restaurant, right next door, is well known for its frozen lemonades and fajitas.

My husband, a college professor, and I accompanies a student group here for a mission trip. It is a gorgeous location, and the beach perfect. After a day of work, we enjoyed retiring to a spacious and comfortable home. Besides having plenty of bedrooms, the house also has a large living room that was perfect for group meetings and discussions. The college students enjoyed the trip tremendously. They appreciated experiencing another culture, from helping build a basketball court for the local school, to watching a lively performance of Garifuna dance. We would love to return with another student group, and many of the students also expressed interest in returning.

Perfect place for the gathering of family in a private atmosphere. White sandy beaches invite sunbathers and swimmers alike. Enjoy a pick-up game of volleyball or tennis to get your heart raising before nestling into a hammock for late lunch siesta.

I have stayed at this house several times with my extended family. The house is incredible and the beach is beautiful. There are hammocks throughout the property and kayaks and other water toys to play with. This is the ultimate place for any large gathering. I'll definetly be back.
